SUMMARY:Creating a Great Shuttle Service
DESCRIPTION:Description\nShuttle services are a versatile means to address many transportation challenges around the region. They can take senior citizens and people with disabilities to activities and medical appointments\, connect residential neighborhoods to transit stations\, take employees from transit to work\, transport students around college campuses\, help residents get around their neighborhood\, and connect travelers with airport terminals. This workshop will help you determine whether a shuttle could help address your transportation challenges\, and how best to package a proposal for a new service. We will address the key factors that determine the success of a shuttle service: market\, route\, schedule and frequency\, operator\, vehicles\, regulatory requirements\, fares\, and funding sources. The workshop will feature speakers with strong experience in starting\, operating and evaluating shuttle services in our region. \nTHIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR 3.0 AICP CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS. \nWORKSHOP PROGRAM\n \n8:30 to 9:00 Registration \n9:00 to 9:10 Welcome – Zenobia Fields\, NJTPA \n9:10 to 10:00 Shuttles\, the Transit Connector – Planning a Successful Service – Steve Fittante\, Loredo Policy Research Group \n\nDetermining your rider market\nService design\nVehicle options\nOperator alternatives\nCosts\n\n10:00 to 10:15 Potential Funding Sources – Krishna Murthy\, EZ Ride \n10:15 to 10:30 Funding and Regulatory Considerations – Anna Magri\, NJ TRANSIT \n10:30 to 10:45 Break \n10:45 to 11:45 Examples of successful shuttle services – Moderator – Peter Bilton\, NJTPA \n\nHarmon Meadow – Krishna Murthy\, EZ Ride\nEssex County Night Owl and Livingston Express – Mike Vieira\, Essex County\nZLine and freeB – Cheryl Kastrenakes\, GMTMA\nAtlantic and Gloucester County Community Shuttles – Ronda Urkowitz\, Cross County Connection\n\n11:45 to 12:30 Panel discussion with speakers – Moderator – Peter Bilton\, NJTPA
