Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program

Bicycle Safety Events

Meadowlink can help communities find solutions to create a safer bicycling environment for children.  We can provide several bicycle safety services that range from presentations on bike safety to facilitating bike rodeo events.

Bike Rodeo or Bicycle Skills Event
A Bike Rodeo is a safety event that teaches students the basic skills needed to safely ride their bikes. Students can learn about and practice safe bicycling skills in a controlled environment. Bike Rodeos are usually held after school or on weekends.
A Rodeo can include:

  • Pre-ride safety check
  • Bike sizing and helmet fitting
  • Bicycle handling and safety drills
  • Drills and information on how to interact with traffic

Bring a Bike Rodeo to Your School or Rec Center!
Events are usually held in a school or recreation center parking lot.  Meadowlink can customize the rodeo for the anticipated group size and participant ages. Volunteers will be needed. Meadowlink will provide detailed instructions in advance and hands-on explanations for volunteers before the rodeo.

Bicycle Safety Events
Meadowlink can provide a bicycle safety presentation for your school or provide you with the tools to do your own.  A bicycle safety presentation is usually about 30 minutes and includes demonstrations and information on:

  • Helmet fit and importance
  • Where to ride on the road
  • Rules of the road
  • Stop, look left-right-left before entering traffic
  • Hand signals
  • Visibility and predictability
