From May 25, 2012 through September 3, 2012, Shore EZ Ride will operate two jitney bus routes that connect the train stations in Long Branch, Asbury Park and Bradley Beach with their beaches. The Asbury Park and Bradley Beach jitney will also serve Ocean Grove in Neptune. EZ Ride jitney buses will meet NJ transit trains as they arrive.
The service is open to the public for $1.00 a ride and operates Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day from 9:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. In June, the route serving Bradley Beach/Neptune/Asbury Park will not operate on Fridays.
Everyone is familiar with the traffic congestion that annually clogs the roads leading to the shore, the traffic within the towns, and the shortage of parking during the summer months. This service intends to reduce that traffic, ease parking within these communities and improve air quality.
Clearly marked shuttle stops are situated along the avenues and return trips are timed to allow travelers to get back to the train station in advance of their departure.
To keep fares low and encourage ridership, the program is jointly funded by NJ Transit, which pays 75% of costs, and the local townships being served, which pay 25%.
